During the new construction and remodelling
processes, we have a great opportunity to make homes
as "future-proof" as possible. Installing a
"structured wiring" backbone in a home is, simply
put, a matter of running the right types of wires in
the correct manner to prepare it for current and
future technologies. The modern way of wiring a
house is to "home run" all the individual TV, phone
and computer wires-- meaning to run from each
individual wall outlet or location directly to a
wiring "hub" (usually in the Mechanical Room).
Running the wires in this manner allows for a great
many possibilities in how the various systems in the
home can communicate with each other. A distribution
panel or enclosure in the Mechanical Room can
protect the wiring hub, provide neat and orderly
wiring terminations, and make changes/upgrades easy.
